Ziggy's & Sons Donuts

Salem's longest-running family donut shop, frying donuts in Salem since 1964. Founder Zygmund "Ziggy" Akatyszewski opened it with his wife Alice and renamed it Ziggy and Sons' as each of his sons became a baker in the business. His son John and John's wife Pattie run it today from Ziggy's original recipe: every donut hand-cut and fried fresh each morning, up to 16 varieties, turnovers made with homemade pie crust, muffins, and Polish pączki and bismarks. Wednesdays are Whoopie Pie Wednesday. The bakery is entirely peanut- and tree-nut-free. It's a morning shop, so check the hours before you go.
