Historical Sites in Salem

Salem's history extends far beyond the witch trials — from Derby Wharf (built 1762, once Salem's longest wharf) to the Custom House where Nathaniel Hawthorne worked, to Federal Street's surviving Federal-style mansions. The city is layered with NPS markers, historical plaques, and preserved buildings from the 1600s through the 1800s. Below: sites in our directory plus recent field captures from around the city.
